No. 4 Baseball wins ninth straight; takes down McDaniel, 5-1

SALISBURY, Md. – The fourth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team extended its winning streak to nine games with a 5-1 triumph over the McDaniel Green Terror on Wednesday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Green Terror broke the ice in the top of the second inning. With two outs and the bases loaded after a walk and a pair of singles, Robert Weer tagged an RBI knock into left to score one and put McDaniel on top 1-0.
  • The Sea Gulls countered thanks to a pair of mistakes in right field in the bottom of the second. Dylan Winebrenner tagged a single to right that Todd Calhoun let get by him, allowing Winebrenner to make it all the way to third. Two batters later, Zach Geesaman lofted a flyball to deep right that Calhoun dropped, allowing Winebrenner to score to tie it at 1-1.
  • In the fourth, Danny Sheeler led off with a single, then two batters later Adam Tommer banged a triple off the wall in right center to plate Sheeler. After a walk and a strikeout, Andrew Kell laced a two-run double to left to boost the SU margin to 4-1.
  • Salisbury tacked on one more in the fifth. With two down and men at the corners, Tommer hit a grounder to third that ate up Shea McKenna, allowing Tim Petrucelli to score and make it 5-1.
  • McDaniel threatened to get back into it in the seventh and eighth, but Garrett Beaver shut it down and stranded two runners on base in each frame.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Andrew Kell finished 1-for-5 with a two-run double at the top of the Sea Gull lineup.
  • Adam Tommer went 1-for-4 with a triple, run, and RBI.
  • Tim Petrucelli, Dylan Winebrenner, and Danny Sheeler each scored a run, while Zach Geesaman picked up an RBI.
  • Cole Williams (4-1) spun his longest career outing for the win in relief, scattering five hits across five scoreless innings with one walk and one strikeout.
  • Theron Mrohs struck out four batters in an abbreviated 1.2-inning start, giving up one run on three hits with one walk on 37 pitches.
  • Garrett Beaver followed Williams with an inning and a third scoreless, and Tyler Villa pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to finish the job.
