Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 4 Women’s Lacrosse stonewalls No. 14 York (Pa.), 9-6

SALISBURY, Md. – The fourth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team put together a stellar defensive showing on Saturday afternoon, stifling the 14th-ranked York (Pa.) Spartans in a 9-6 victory at Sea Gull Stadium. Graduate goalkeeper Kaitlyn Hunsinger surpassed 200 career saves in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Spartans found a rhythm in the first eight minutes, forcing a trio of saves by Hunsinger and taking a 2-0 lead. Alexandra Parker connected with Camryn Pepper with just under four minutes to go before the defenses took the 2-1 score into the second period.
  • Erin Scannell fired an unassisted finish to tie the contest just two minutes into the second stanza. The sides clamped down for over five minutes before York notched its third goal, but Miranda Mears responded just 35 seconds later to restore the deadlock, 3-3.
  • With just over three minutes to go in the half, Leah Vilov found Mary Hanzsche on the doorstep to give Salisbury its first advantage of the contest, 4-3. The Spartans scored 16 seconds later to tie the ranked battle at 4-4, a score that held for the remainder of the quarter.
  • The Sea Gulls began the second half with a three-goal run, using solo strikes from Vilov, Mears, and Parker to jump in front by three with just over 22 minutes remaining, 7-4.
  • York scored a pair of goals in the final 17 minutes of the matchup, but Vilov and Mears (assisted by Julianna Ott) helped stave off the Spartans to secure the 9-6 score.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Miranda Mears netted her third hat trick of the season with a pair of ground balls.
  • Leah Vilov tallied three points on two goals and one assist.
  • Madeline Davis finished with three ground balls while causing one Spartan slip-up.
  • Grace Doyle forced a team-high three turnovers.
  • Meridith Price and Natalie Held each corralled five draw controls in the win. Held surpassed 100 career draw controls in the victory.
  • Kaitlyn Hunsinger provided 60 minutes of excellence, turning away 11 shots in the winning effort. Hunsinger currently holds 208 career saves.
YORK (PA.) GAME NOTES
  • Zoe Kluegel finished with three points on two goals and one assist.
  • Sydney Mentzer fired two goals while collecting three draw controls and forcing two turnovers in the loss.
  • Madison Kurland picked up a team-high three ground balls.
  • Bella Garabo had a career day for the Spartans, making 18 saves across the full 60 minutes in a losing effort.

  • The ranked battles continue for the Sea Gulls, who host the fifth-ranked Franklin & Marshall Diplomats on Saturday, April 7.
  • The dust-up is set to begin at 1 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium.
