No. 5 Baseball powers past Stevenson, 12-7

SALISBURY, Md. – The fifth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team used a trio of home runs and three other extra-base hits to win a wild one over the Stevenson Mustangs, taking a 12-7 margin for its fourth straight victory on Wednesday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls wasted no time putting up a crooked number. A single and two walks loaded the bases with two out in the first inning, and Zach Geesaman bowled a grounder up the middle for a two-run single to put SU up 2-0.
  • The Mustangs got one back on one swing in the third as Graham Sears powered a solo home run to left to make it 2-1.
  • In the fourth Stevenson loaded the bases with one out and Noah Joly picked up the game-tying RBI on a free pass. Connor Wilkerson followed with a go-ahead RBI single to center, then two batters later Brandon Perillo plated another with a base hit to put the Mustangs up 4-2.
  • Salisbury put up a trio to vault back into the lead in the fifth. With two down and nobody on, Tim Petrucelli doubled and came in on a Dylan Winebrenner single. Danny Sheeler followed with an opposite-field two-run homer to make it 5-4 Sea Gulls.
  • Stevenson tied it back up in the sixth as Matt Perri went yard to left, making it 5-5. Then in the top of the seventh with men on second and third and one out, Christopher Manco grooved a two-run double down the left field line to give the Mustangs another lead, 7-5.
  • The Sea Gulls got all of that back and then some in the bottom of the seventh. Dom Frigiola singled to lead off and Petrucelli blasted a two-run homer to right to tie at 7-7. Winebrenner followed with a double and Sheeler laid down a bunt single to put men on the corners. After a walk to load the bases, Andrew Kell came up to pinch hit and lifted a flyball to left deep enough to plate Winebrenner with the go-ahead run, making it 8-7.
  • Salisbury loaded the bases again after the Mustangs failed to get an out on a fielder's choice off Geesaman's bat, and pinch-hitter Alex Craig made them pay with a two-run single. Geesaman eventually came home on a bad pickoff and a wild pitch to cap the six-run frame and put the Sea Gulls in control, 11-7.
  • Sheeler delivered the knockout blow with his second dinger of the game, a solo bomb to right center in the eighth to give the game its final 12-7 margin.
SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Danny Sheeler belted two home runs, finishing 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs. Sheeler now has two multi-homer games in his Sea Gull career after going yard twice against Cortland on Feb. 19, 2023.

  • Dylan Winebrenner finished 2-for-4 with a double, RBI, and two runs.
  • Zach Geesaman and Alex Craig each picked up two rib-eyes.
