Windsor, Adolfson combine for no-hitter against M’ville in No. 5 Softball NCAA opener

SALISBURY, Md. – Pitchers Lindsey Windsor and Sydney Adolfson combined to toss a no-hitter as the fifth-ranked Salisbury University softball team rolled through the Manhattanville Valiants, 9-0 in five innings, to open the Salisbury Regional of the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament on Thursday afternoon at Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls wasted no time building a sizable lead. Abby Mace led off the first inning with a double and Emily Challender was plunked to put two on. After a lineout and a groundout, Lauren Meyers ripped a two-run double into the right center gap to get SU on the board, 2-0.
  • Carrie Jacoby then walked, and Lindsey Windsor ripped a triple into right center to score two, coming home herself on a throwing error from right to put the Sea Gulls ahead 5-0.
  • Salisbury opened up the margin further thanks to a Valiant error in the fourth. Jillian Dawson and Mace each singled with one out, then after a strikeout Meghan Reed hit a grounder to second that Samantha Walsh had trouble picking up, allowing Dawson to score. Natalie Paoli then hit a fielder's choice to short that MU was late executing at second base, during which Mace came around to score and make it 7-0.
  • Meyers and Jacoby then delivered back-to-back RBI singles to build the Sea Gull margin to 9-0.
  • After spinning four scoreless innings, Windsor handed the ball off to Sydney Adolfson, who retired the Valiants in order in the fifth, striking out Sydni Brooks to secure the no-no in the shortened game.

SALISBURY GAME NOTES
  • Lindsey Windsor (3-0) earned her third win of the season with four no-hit innings. She struck out five batters and only issued two walks and a hit batsman. At the plate, Windsor went 1-for-3 with a triple, run, and two RBIs.
  • Sydney Adolfson struck out two batters in a perfect fifth inning to secure the 55th official no-hitter in Sea Gull softball history and first since Windsor and Nicole Ortega combined to hold Cabrini without a hit over five innings on Apr. 14, 2023.
  • Windsor has now played a part in three no-hitters in her SU career. In addition to the 2023 effort against Cabrini, Windsor authored a solo seven-inning no-no against Lynchburg on Mar. 18, 2022.
  • The no-no was Salisbury's first in NCAA Tournament play since Savannah Sheats held Eastern Nazarene out of the hits column over five innings in the regionals on May 22, 2021.
  • Lauren Meyers delivered often at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, run, and three RBIs.
  • Abby Mace went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
  • Carrie Jacoby finished 1-for-2 with a rib-eye and a run.
  • Salisbury has now won 21 consecutive NCAA Tournament games at home dating back to 2014. The Sea Gulls went a perfect 5-0 at home in regional and super regional play en route to College World Series berths in 2014, 2015, 2022, and 2023.
MANHATTANVILLE GAME NOTES
  • Isabella Tansey drew both of the Valiants' walks, while Rachel Coleman was hit by a pitch.
  • Charli Shinstine (16-7) took the loss after giving up five runs (four earned) on three hits in just two-thirds of an inning.
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls will next play the winner of Thursday afternoon's contest between No. 11 Randolph-Macon and Eastern.
  • That game will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. with the winner advancing to the regional championship and the loser playing an elimination game at 4 p.m. on Friday.
