No. 30 Men’s Tennis stymied by No. 21 UMW in C2C semifinals

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The 30th-ranked and fourth-seeded Salisbury University men's tennis team saw its run through the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Tournament halted in the semifinals, 5-0, at the hands of the 21st-ranked and top-seeded Mary Washington Eagles on Saturday morning at the UMW Indoor Tennis Center.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Sea Gulls challenged in all three doubles matches, with Caleb Brightman and Gurv Suri taking the Eagles' Trevor Rein and Evan Fisher the distance in a second-doubles tiebreak before ultimately falling 8-7 (7-5).
  • Aron Bursztyn and Mitchell Desman also put up a strong fight in an 8-6 defeat in third doubles.
  • Russell Willenborg had forced a tiebreaker in sixth singles and was even 6-6 when the contest ended via UMW's clinching of the overall match.
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls, 14-5 and ranked seventh in the latest regional rankings, will wait and see if they have earned an at-large bid into the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament.
