The Rundown

The seventh-ranked and second-seeded Salisbury University baseball team will hit the road to chase a fourth consecutive Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) championship and 19th conference title overall. The Sea Gulls will play in the 2024 C2C Tournament at Captains Park in Newport News, Va., on Friday, May 10.

Salisbury finished the regular season with a 28-8 record, going 2-2 in C2C play by splitting the season series against Christopher Newport and Mary Washington.
The Sea Gulls won 10 straight games from Mar. 7-22 and put together a six-gamer from Apr. 13-24.
SU has gone 7-3 against teams ranked in the most recent D3baseball.com Top 25 poll, besting Johns Hopkins, CNU, Penn State Harrisburg (x2), and Cortland (x3), with losses to Denison, CNU, and Randolph-Macon.
Salisbury went 9-3 in games decided by two runs or fewer, including 5-1 in one-run games.
Outfielder Andrew Kell became the fourth straight Sea Gull to garner C2C Player of the Year (Justin Meekins ‘21, Kavi Caster ’22, Danny Sheeler '23).
Right-hander Cole Williams was named C2C Rookie of the Year, while infielder/outfielder Adam Tommer took home C2C Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Salisbury placed five players on the All-C2C First Team: catcher Dylan Winebrenner, first baseman Danny Sheeler, second baseman Kyle Brex, and outfielders Andrew Kell and Tim Petrucelli.
Shortstop Trent Waire and relief pitchers Garrett Beaver, Ethan Hirschfeld, and Shawn Rosemond were recognized as All-C2C Honorable Mention.
Salisbury boasts the C2C's best offense in several categories, batting a league-best .325 with 332 runs (9.2 per game), 38 home runs, 301 RBIs, and 67 stolen bases.
Andrew Kell leads the C2C with a .519 batting average and is ranked third in stolen bases (11), tied for third in home runs (6), and fourth in RBIs (42).
Tim Petrucelli's 11 home runs are four more than the rest of the field; he is also tied for the league lead in RBIs (46) and ranks third in average (.378).
A trio of Sea Gulls (Kell, Danny Sheeler, Dylan Winebrenner) are tied for third in the C2C with six homers apiece. Winebrenner's .358 batting average is good for fifth.
SU holds the second-through-fifth positions in the C2C in steals, lead by Kyle Brex (12) and followed by Kell (11), Adam Tommer (10), and Sheeler (9).
Cole Williams is tied for the league lead in wins (8), while Shawn Rosemond (6) is tied for fourth.
Garrett Beaver (2.97) and Ethan Hirschfeld (3.40) sport the fourth- and fifth-best ERAs, respectively, in the league.
Aidan Brinsfield's 40 strikeouts are good for fourth in the conference.
Beaver (3) and Rosemond (2) are each ranked top-five in saves.
Salisbury ranks fifth in Division III in on-base percentage (.447) and also holds top-30 marks in runs per game (9.2), slugging average (.503), walks (218), hits allowed per nine innings (8.49), home runs per game (1.06), sac bunts (37), and WHIP (0.778).
Andrew Kell owns the nation's best batting average at .519, over 30 points higher than the rest of the field. He also ranks third in on-base percentage (.605), ninth in slugging (.842), and 27th in sac flies (6).
One of the nation's top freshman arms, Cole Williams slots 12th in wins (8) and 21st in appearances (20).
Danny Sheeler ranks 11th in walks per game (1.06), 13th in total walks (38), and 27th in sac flies (6).
Tim Petrucelli's 11 dingers and .748 slugging average slot 36th and 39th, respectively.
Garrett Beaver's 5.70 hits allowed per nine innings ranks 20th nationally; he is also top-200 in ERA (2.97).

#3 Mary Washington Eagles

Tenth-ranked Christopher Newport went 25-9 in the regular season, including 3-1 in C2C play after splitting with Salisbury and sweeping Mary Washington.
The Captains earned a pair of the five major C2C postseason awards, with Dylan Weber repeating as Pitcher of the Year and boss John Harvell winning a second straight Coaching Staff of the Year.
Seven CNU players earned slots on the All-C2C First Team with one Honorable Mention.
Salisbury defeated CNU 18-3 at home on Apr. 13, while the Captains won 6-1 in Newport News on May 4.

Mary Washington finished the regular season 25-12, going 1-3 against C2C foes with a split against SU and a sweep at the hands of CNU.
Five Eagles were picked for the All-C2C First Team, while three others earned Honorable Mention nods.
UMW bested Salisbury 11-9 in Fredericksburg on Mar. 30, snapping a 19-game losing streak against the Sea Gulls that extended back to 2017. SU avenged the loss with a 5-4 home triumph on Apr. 20.

What's At Stake

Due to the C2C only fielding three baseball teams, the winner of the C2C Tournament will not receive an automatic bid to into the NCAA Tournament. C2C member schools will need a Pool B or Pool C at-large bid to make the field.
The Division III selection show is scheduled for Monday, May 13 at 12 p.m. on NCAA.com.
