Salisbury Golf to call Green Hill Country Club home

QUANTICO, Md. – The Salisbury University men's and women's golf teams have officially found their home course. The Sea Gulls have entered into a partnership with Green Hill Country Club in nearby Quantico beginning with the 2024-25 season as they become the university's 22nd and 23rd varsity sports.

"I first want to thank the members and the ownership at Green Hill for their incredible hospitality, as well as head golf professional Rob McDonald for their efforts in creating this partnership," said Sea Gull head golf coach Dalton Deardorff. "Without their willingness to welcome both our men's and women's programs out to Green Hill, none of this would be possible.

Green Hill Country Club was established in 1927 with a nine-hole golf course, with an additional nine holes added in 1955. The 18-hole course measures 6,477 yards from regular tees, 6,929 yards from championship tees, and 5,975 yards from women's tees.

The Club also features tennis courts and a swimming pool, both opened in 1977, as well as various amenities and locker rooms opened in 1978, and is currently undergoing numerous renovations, including an extended driving range and newly-sodded tee boxes.

"This partnership is one that I hope will increase excitement around collegiate golf on the Eastern Shore while also providing an opportunity to host regional and national events for some of the best Division III golfers in the country," said Deardorff.

"We are thrilled to enter into this partnership with Green Hill Country Club as we prepare to launch our new men's and women's golf teams this fall," said SU Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation Monica Polizzi. "We know that having top-notch facilities is key into the recruitment and development of student-athletes. Adding an elite course like Green Hill will continue to support our Sea Gulls.

"We look forward to calling Green Hill Country Club our home as we build our golf programs into some of the best in Division III."

With a home base established, Salisbury is set to offer golf as a varsity sport for the first time in four decades. Then-Salisbury State College fielded a men's golf team that also included women from 1973-85.

Men's and women's golf are slated to become the first new additions to SU athletics since the advent of women's soccer in 1994. In NCAA Division III, over 300 institutions offer men's golf and 240 offer women's golf. The season straddles the fall and spring calendars with NCAA Championships held each spring.

The 2024-25 Sea Gull men's and women's golf schedules will be announced at a later date.

Salisbury University is a proud member of NCAA Division III with primary membership in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference, along with the New Jersey Athletic Conference for football and men's and women's swimming, and the Coastal Lacrosse Conference for men's lacrosse. With over 500 student-athletes in 23 varsity sports, SU is recognized as one of the most competitive intercollegiate athletics programs regardless of division, featuring dedicated coaches and staff that foster excellence on and off the field. The Sea Gulls have celebrated 23 team national championships, 24 individual national champions, 199 conference championships, and 45 Academic All-Americans.
