No. 13 Softball splits on opening day

SALISBURY, Md. - The No. 13 Salisbury University softball program opened up the 2025 season with a 6-4 win against No. 16 University of Rochester before falling 5-2 against Swarthmore College Friday afternoon at Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium.

In game one against Rochester, the Sea Gull offense scored all six runs in the third inning. The runs started pouring in when Emily Stockman blasted a three-run home run into left field, scoring Madison Lepeonka and Ellen Stockman, who had singled earlier in the inning.

The rally continued when Karlie Wolfe singled to score Morgan Moxley followed by Emily Challender roping a double to left field, scoring Alayna Gigliotti and Jillian Dawson. The Yellow Jackets responded by posting four runs in the fourth, which would turn out to be the only runs Sydney Adolfson would give up on her complete game outing for the Sea Gulls. Adolfson tallied four strikeouts in her seven-inning win and only gave up two hits after the four-run fourth inning by the Yellow Jackets.

Game One Notes
- Both teams tallied eight hits, but Rochester made two errors while the Sea Gulls played a clean season opener.
- Emily Stockman finished the game with two hits, three RBIs, and one run.
- The Sea Gulls left eight runners on base.

In the game two loss against Swarthmore, the Garnet posted two runs in the first inning while Salisbury was held scoreless until the fifth. The two runs in the fifth came on solo shots for the Sea Gulls as Carrie Jacoby and Wolfe smoked a pair over the left field fence to tie the game 2-2 heading into the 6th inning. Swarthmore posted three runs in the seventh to secure the victory.

Game Two Notes
- Jacoby finished with two hits, which included her solo shot in the fifth.
- Both teams left seven runners on base.
- The Garnet only tallied one more hit than the Sea Gulls for the game.

Tomorrow's triple header has been pushed back 30 minutes, with the first game between Swarthmore and Rochester beginning at 11 a.m. The Salisbury and Rochester match up will tentatively follow at 1 p.m., with the final game of the day between Salisbury and Swarthmore set for 3 p.m. from the Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium.
