No. 9 Baseball bounces McDaniel, 7-1

SALISBURY, Md. – The ninth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team returned to its winning ways with a 7-1 triumph over the McDaniel Green Terror on Tuesday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

The Green Terror drew first blood in the top of the first inning. Shea McKenna led off with a double, then three batters later Ben Davis brought him in with an RBI single. The Sea Gulls both back in the bottom of the first when, with two down and men on second and third, McDaniel shortstop Kyle Carl threw away a Noah Burroughs grounder, allowing both runners to score to put SU in front 2-1.

In the third, Dylan Winebrenner ripped a one-out double, then two batters later Jackson Inman sliced his own two-sacker to left center, scoring Winebrenner to make it 3-1. Then in the fifth with the bases loaded and two out, Danny Sheeler bowled a two-run single up the middle and Winebrenner followed with a run-scoring ground-rule double to make it 6-1.

SU tacked on another in the sixth on a two-out RBI knock by Cole Swift, making it 7-1. The run support was more than enough for starting pitcher Aidan Brinsfield, who cruised through six innings of one-run ball before handing it off to the Sea Gull relief corps to shut it down.

GAME NOTES
  • Danny Sheeler finished 2-for-3 with a run, two walks, and two RBIs.
  • Dylan Winebrenner doubled twice, going 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
  • Roman March batted 2-for-3 and scored a run, while Cole Swift went 2-for-5 with a rib-eye.
  • Aidan Brinsfield (1-0) gave up just one run on three hits over six innings, walking two and punching out seven on 83 pitches to win his first game of the year.
  • Garrett Beaver handled two scoreless innings in relief, and Bryce Sterling pitched a perfect ninth to finish things off.

The Sea Gulls will put a capper on a season-opening 11-game homestand against William Peace on Wednesday. First pitch from Williams Stadium is slated for 3 p.m.
