No. 8 Baseball stifles Ursinus, 6-4

SALISBURY, Md. – The eighth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team leaned on a strong effort from its bullpen to win its 15th game of the year, stifling the Ursinus Bears 6-4 on Sunday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

The Bears drew first blood with a run in the top of the first inning as Jordan Williams doubled home a run. The Sea Gulls answered in the bottom of the first as Dylan Winebrenner tripled home a pair and scored on a Noah Burroughs sac fly, putting SU on top 3-1.

The teams traded a run each in the second. UC plated one on a single by Jakob Cantor, while SU got the tally back as BK Wilson scored off a two-out error at second base, making it 4-2. Salisbury then tacked on a pair in the fifth as Wilson capped a string of three straight singles with an RBI knock, and another came home on a double play groundout to push it to 6-2.

Ursinus peeled back a run each in the seventh and eighth but couldn't get closer against a seven-man SU relief corps that gave up just one earned run over a combined 7.2 innings. Bryce Sterling slammed the door in the ninth, striking out a pair to nail down the dub.
