ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The ninth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team made quick work of the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks, shutting out its Western Shore rivals 10-0 in eight innings on Wednesday afternoon at the Hawk's Nest.
The Sea Gulls soared into the lead early with three runs in the first inning. After loading the bases with two walks and a double,
Noah Burroughs and
Jackson Inman brought home the first two on back-to-back sac flies, then
Andrew Kell singled home the third to make it 3-0 SU.
Max Ehrhardt was plunked to lead off the fifth, then after a single and a passed ball
Dylan Winebrenner singled run a home and Burroughs followed with a two-run double. A walk and a hit batsman later,
Jake Witter plated a fourth run in the inning on a sac fly, building the advantage to 7-0.
SU tacked on one more in the seventh as Witter scored on a two-out error at short, then in the eighth
Danny Sheeler tripled home a run and Winebrenner singled home another, pushing the margin to 10-0.
Aidan Brinsfield shut down the Seahawks from there, delivering Salisbury an early run-rule victory.
GAME NOTES
- Danny Sheeler finished a homer shy of the cycle, going 3-for-4 with a double, triple, RBI, and three runs scored, plus a stolen base.
- Dylan Winebrenner finished 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBIs, and two of the Sea Gulls' six steals.
- Noah Burroughs went 1-for-3 with a double, run, and three RBIs, while Andrew Kell had two hits and a rib-eye.
- Max Ehrhardt scored three runs at the top of the lineup, finishing 1-for-3.
- Aidan Brinsfield (4-0) pitched all eight innings, scattering three hits and three walks with eight strikeouts on 105 pitches for his second career complete game. Brinsfield also tossed an eight-inning shutout to beat Neumann on Apr. 16, 2024.
The Sea Gulls will return home for a key Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) matchup with Christopher Newport on Saturday at 2 p.m. Before the game, SU will celebrate Senior Day for nine graduating players:
