SALISBURY, Md. – The ninth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team reached the 30-win plateau for the eighth consecutive complete season, torching the Hood Blazers 12-2 in seven innings in Tuesday afternoon's final regular season game at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.
The Blazers put up a run each in the first and second innings, the latter coming on a solo home run by Jonathan Tyndall, before the Sea Gulls roared back with six in the fourth. After back-to-back walks to start the frame,
BK Wilson beat out a bunt single that was thrown past first base, allowing two runs to score and Wilson to advance to second.
Logan Stillerman followed with another walk and the two executed a double steal, with Wilson trotting home on a bad throw from the catcher to put SU on top 3-2.
Another walk led to a
Max Ehrhardt squeeze bunt that plated Stillerman. After a hit batsman,
Dylan Winebrenner and
Noah Burroughs followed with back-to-back RBI singles, boosting the margin to 6-2. Salisbury tacked on another in the fifth as
Trent Waire singled and
Griffin Shirk came home on an error in center to make it 7-2.
Burroughs blasted a solo homer to right center to lead off the sixth, then two batters later
Andrew Kell teed off for his own two-run dinger to left to make it 10-2. Later in the inning with two down and the bases juiced, Winebrenner singled home two more runs to put SU up by 10 runs at 12-2, triggering the end of the game after the top of the seventh.
