No. 29 Men’s Tennis clipped by No. 26 CNU in C2C semis

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The 29th-ranked and third-seeded Salisbury University men's tennis team stood tall against the 26th-ranked and top-seeded Christopher Newport Captains but ultimately fell short, dropping a 4-2 decision in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Tournament semifinals on Saturday afternoon at the Eyre Tennis Center.
 
MATCH NOTES
  • The Sea Gulls slugged their way to the doubles point, as Gianluca Beaujon and Mitchell Desman in second doubles and Aron Bursztyn and Gurv Suri in third each won by 7-5 margins.
  • Asher Willenborg gave SU a point out of first singles, sweeping Vincent Truong 6-2, 6-4.
  • The Captains swept fourth-through-sixth singles, and in second singles Jhayden Pappas endured a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) heartbreaker at the hands of Nesh Kumaresan that provided the CNU clincher.
  • Suri took the first set from Ryan Monroe in third singles; their match was in the third set (4-6, 6-1, 2-1) before the clincher that rendered it unfinished.
 
The Sea Gulls will play one more fixture at the C2C Tournament, taking on fourth-seeded UC Santa Cruz in the third-place match on Sunday at 2 p.m.
