Back on top: No. 7 Baseball smokes CNU for C2C championship

Fourth title in five years is Sea Gulls’ 19th conference crown

SALISBURY, Md. – For the fourth time in five years, the seventh-ranked and top-seeded Salisbury University baseball team is king of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C). The Sea Gulls bested the third-seeded Christopher Newport Captains 15-4 in seven innings in the C2C Baseball Tournament championship game on Thursday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

The Sea Gulls swarmed over the Captains in the bottom of the first inning, sending 14 men to the plate and scoring 10 runs on just three hits. Noah Burroughs drove in the first tally on a bases-loaded walk, and Jackson Inman followed with a two-run single. Max Ehrhardt and Burroughs also picked up RBI infield hits in the frame, and Danny Sheeler scored the 10th run on a wild pitch.

After scratching one run across in the third and fourth, SU plated a pair in the fifth on back-to-back doubles by Burroughs and Inman and an RBI single by Andrew Kell, building the lead to 14-0. CNU got four runs back in the sixth, including three on a home run by Eric Wilson, but the Sea Gulls countered with one in the home sixth on a Burroughs run-scoring knock to make it 15-4.

The teams mutually decided to institute the 10-run rule after seven innings; Trent Waire started the game-ending 6-4-3 double play to end the top of the seventh and set off the dogpile at The Don.
