No. 2 Baseball tames Centenary (N.J.), 9-2

SALISBURY, Md. – The second-ranked Salisbury University baseball team used an eight-run outburst in the seventh inning to tame the Centenary (N.J.) Cyclones, 9-2, on Saturday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

The Sea Gulls scratched one across in the first as Conner Seeley plopped a two-out RBI single into left. The teams traded zeroes from there until the sixth when the Cyclones tied it via a Nick Friscia RBI knock.

In the top of the seventh, Centenary took advantage of an SU miscue in the field. Myles Castillo reached on a dropped flyball in center with one out, then after a steal and a walk, Cole Schulberg tagged a bloop single into shallow left, scoring Castillo to give the Cyclones a 2-1 lead.

Salisbury provided an answer and more in the seventh on a rally sparked by a leadoff error that allowed Trent Waire to reach. With one out and the bases loaded after a hit batsman and a walk, Ethan Ruiz legged out a game-tying RBI single, and the go-ahead run came around on a throwing error. Jackson Inman then hit a grounder to second, but CU's Chris Clark misfired home, allowing two more runs to cross and make it 5-2.

After a walk and a single loaded them up again, Jay Newton singled one home and Waire again reached on an error, followed by back-to-back plunkings of Charlie Hartman and TJ Morris to make it an eight-run frame and a 9-2 Sea Gull advantage they would not relinquish.
