No. 9 Baseball rips Widener, 11-2

CHESTER, Pa. – The ninth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team kept the bats hot to the tune of five doubles en route to a 11-2 ripping of the Widener Pride on Wednesday afternoon at the WU Baseball Field.

The Sea Gulls got a big jump out of the gate with four runs in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI double off the bat of Jake Witter. The Pride answered with one in the second, but SU got that run back in the fourth on an RBI double by Max Ehrhardt to boost the margin to 5-1.

Salisbury opened up the manufacturing plant in the fifth and sixth, scoring three runs across the two frames on a squeeze play from Trent Waire and sac flies by Nathan Tondreault and Ehrhardt to get it to 8-1. In the seventh, Griffin Shirk lashed a two-bagger to left to score Witter and make it 9-1.

Widener tacked on one in the eighth, which the Sea Gulls answered with two more in the ninth on a Waire run-scoring double and an RBI knock by Shirk, giving the game its final 11-2 margin.
