No. 4 Women’s Lacrosse spears Neumann, 21-3

ASTON, Pa. – The fourth-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team went ahead by double-digits halfway through the second quarter and led 13-0 at halftime, en route to a 21-3 drubbing of the Neumann University Knights on Wednesday afternoon.

The Sea Gulls (12-0) led 7-0 after 15 minutes of play. Miranda Mears found the back of the cage twice, while Amelia Skinner, Grace Doyle, Lauren Hackett, Mackenzie Demaio and Regan McDonnell each struck pay dirt once.

SU poured on six more goals on the Knights (3-7, 1-0 AEC) in the following frame. Ally Mathis, Leah Doy, Lucy Michaels, Demaio, Mears and Skinner each added on to escalate the Salisbury advantage to 13 at the break.

After Neumann got on the board, the Maroon and Gold put up the next five scores of the third stanza. Avery Starowicz found twine twice and Julia Cornblatt, Maggie Tilves and Samantha Lavin helped make it 18-1 heading into the final quarter.

The Gulls won the final frame 3-2. Olivia Fitzsimmons joined the scoresheet as Cornblatt and Mathis notched their second goals of the afternoon.

GAME NOTES
  • Audrey Harrington and Mackenzie Demaio each dished out four helpers. Demaio added two tallies to complete a season-high six-point outing.
  • Miranda Mears recorded her third straight hat-trick and has scored 11 goals her past three contests played.
  • Ally Mathis, Amelia Skinner, Avery Starowicz and Julia Cornblatt each potted a pair of goals. Mathis added in two assists.
  • 14 different Sea Gulls found the back of the cage and nine different Sea Gulls caused a turnover. Savannah Libby led the squad with three ground balls.
  • Paige Ellis made the start for SU and shut out the Knights, making four saves. Addison Hodges made two stops in relief and Jaclyn Bange closed out the contest in the cage.
  • The Sea Gulls outshot the Knights 39-9, claimed 18-of-31 available ground balls and went a perfect 18-for-18 on clears.
The Sea Gulls continue their road trip on Saturday when they face Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va., at 1 p.m.
