No. 12 Baseball drops second straight to Randolph-Macon

SALISBURY, Md. – A change of scenery wasn't enough to lift the 12th-ranked Salisbury University baseball team past Randolph-Macon as the Yellow Jackets swept the weekend home-and-home with a 5-2 triumph on Sunday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

The Sea Gulls took an early 1-0 as Jay Newton ripped an RBI single down the right field line in the first inning. The Yellow Jackets quickly countered as Jacob Hauk notched his own run-scoring knock in the second to tie it at 1-1.

In the top of the fourth, Jack Bowles got things going for RMC with a one-out single, then Carter Wuestenhoefer blasted a two-run homer to left center to put the visitors in front. SU got one back in the home fourth as Newton scored via an error at third base off a grounder from TJ Morris, bringing the home side within 3-2.

The Yellow Jackets reinforced their cushion to 5-2 in the sixth on a pinch-hit, two-out, two-run single by Zach Stolze, and Salisbury had no answer for RMC starter Peter Phillips or James M. Bennett High School product Cory Fisher out of the bullpen.
