No. 13 Baseball outclasses Neumann, 14-5

SALISBURY, Md. – The 13th-ranked Salisbury University baseball team capped a stretch of five games in six days on a high note, outclassing the Neumann Knights 14-5 on Tuesday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.

The Sea Gulls established control early with a touchdown in the first inning. Nathan Tondreault got the party started with a walk and eventually scored on an error, and eventually Ethan Ruiz and Tondreault capped the rally with back-to-back two-run singles to make it 7-0 SU.

The Knights got two back in the top of the second, which Salisbury answered in the bottom of the frame on an RBI knock by Max Ehrhardt. NU in turn put one more up in the fourth on a two-out infield single by Donovan Brooks to cut it to 8-3. Neumann plated two more in the sixth to make it 8-5 and had the bases loaded with one out, but Tyler Villa came in from the bullpen and coaxed an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play to mitigate the damage.

SU fortified its lead in the next two frames thanks in part to a pair of errant pickoff moves. In the seventh, Griffin Shirk came all the way around to score from first on a bad throw. Then in the eighth, Trent Waire took second on another failed pickoff and came home on a Jay Newton RBI single. Salisbury tacked on four more in the frame, the final three scoring on a two-run Ruiz single-plus-error, giving the game its final 14-5 margin.
