MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The 12th-ranked Salisbury University baseball team scored eight unanswered runs over its final four turns at-bat, pulling away to bury the Penn State Harrisburg Lions 10-2 for its sixth straight win on Thursday afternoon at Nittany Field.
The teams engaged in a tight dance over the first five innings. In the top of the second the Sea Gulls broke the ice on an RBI single by
Jake Witter, which the Lions answered in the bottom of the frame on a Nathan Lapp run-scoring knock. Then in the fourth Witter brought home another on an RBI groundout; PSH punched back in the fifth as Blaine Waltimyer singled in the run to tie it at 2-2.
Salisbury went in front to stay in the sixth on a walk, single, and RBI single by
Max Ehrhardt. Then in the seventh SU earned some breathing room as
Griffin Shirk tagged a two-out, two-run base hit to build the margin to 5-2.
Ethan Ruiz reached on an error to lead off the ninth, then two batters later
Jackson Inman tagged a two-run homer to left.
Jay Newton followed by reaching on an HBP and Shirk walked, setting up Ehrhardt for a single-plus-error that chased Newton home. Witter followed with a two-run knock to center, making it a five-spot in the inning – all with two outs – to give the game its final 10-2 margin.
GAME NOTES
- Jackson Inman homered for the third time in four games and reached base four other times on two walks and two HBPs, ultimately scoring four runs. Inman's home run was his 10th of the season, making him the 14th player in program history to reach double-digit dingers in one year.
