Softball splits home finale against Catholic

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University softball program earned a split against the Catholic University of America on Wednesday afternoon inside Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium. The Sea Gulls (23-13) took game one 7-2, before falling to the Cardinals (27-11) 2-1 in game two.

In the game one 7-2 win, Isabella Purdy tallied a complete game victory in the circle for the Sea Gulls. She gave up only the two runs on eight hits through the seven innings of work.

Both teams tallied a run in the first inning, with Karlie Wolfe earning an RBI single that scored Sam Flowers, who singled to lead the inning off. SU tallied two more runs in the second from a two RBI single from Courtney Johnson to take a 3-1 lead through two innings.

Wolfe led the fifth inning off with a blast to right field for a solo home run off the scoreboard. Alayna Gigliotti and Audrey March would follow that up with singles before coming around to score on a Merry Pavlik two RBI triple.

Game One Notes
  • This served as the 10th win of Purdy's season.
  • Wolfe finished with two hits and two RBIs.
  • Gigliotti, Flowers, and March also earned two-hit games, while Gigliotti added an RBI.
  • The Cardinals left 11 runners on base while the Sea Gulls stranded seven.
In the 2-1 game two loss, the offense for both sides came at an absolute premium. Carly Angstadt and Brooklyn Richardson both went an inning of work in the circle, allowing no hits and one run, but walked four Cardinal batters. Madison McGinnis tallied three strikeouts in four innings, allowing one run.

The lone run for the Sea Gulls came from a solo home run to centerfield from Wolfe. SU out-hit CU 5-4 but left five runners on base. Johnson, Gigliotti, Morgan Moxley, and McKenna Horner added the other hits for Salisbury.
