SALISBURY, Md. – The seventh-ranked Salisbury University baseball team put a lid on its regular season by winning its 10th straight game, no-hitting the Cairn Highlanders 10-0 in seven innings on Friday afternoon at Donnie Williams Sea Gull Baseball Stadium.
The Sea Gulls manufactured their opening tally in the first inning as
Nathan Tondreault doubled and came around on a
Trent Waire sac bunt and
Jackson Inman sac fly. Then in the second,
Griffin Shirk banged a leadoff triple off the wall and scored moments later on a wild pitch;
Mickey Haynes followed with a single, took third on a bad pickoff, and came home on an
Ethan Ruiz RBI groundout to put SU up 3-0.
Max Ehrhardt tagged a two-run single to open up a four-run third, making it 7-0. In the sixth, Ehrhardt and
Griffin Shirk notched back-to-back RBI singles to get it to 9-0. Then in the seventh, Inman's RBI double chased home pinch-runner
Ethan Ruiz to trigger the run-rule victory.
Aidan Brinsfield spearheaded the seven-inning no-no with five strong, while
Cole Williams and
Garrett Beaver handled the final two innings each to secure SU's second combined no-hitter of the season.
GAME NOTES
- Griffin Shirk finished 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs, and two RBIs.
- Jake Witter batted 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
- Max Ehrhardt went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.
- Nathan Tondreault finished 3-for-4 with a double and a run, while Jackson Inman doubled and drove in two on a 1-for-3 day.
- Aidan Brinsfield (8-3) continued his late-season dominance with five no-hit innings. He walked one and struck out five on an efficient 58 pitches. Brinsfield has given up one or zero earned runs in eight of his last nine starts.
- Cole Williams and Garrett Beaver each tossed a scoreless frame in relief, giving up one more baserunner on a walk.
- Salisbury has now completed two seven-inning no-hitters this season, with the first coming via Brinsfield and Williams in the second game of a Feb. 14 doubleheader against Moravian.
- The win was the Sea Gulls' 30th of the season. SU has won at least 30 games in nine consecutive complete seasons dating back to 2017, as well as 24 times since 2000.
Boasting a 30-9 record, the Sea Gulls will await their seeding and matchup for the 2026 Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Tournament, which begins with the semifinal round on Thursday. Seeding will be determined at the conclusion of Saturday's Mary Washington-Christopher Newport game at UMW.
