SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's and women's track & field programs were recognized for their excellence in the classroom by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), with both teams earning All-Academic Team honors for the 2026 outdoor season.
The Salisbury men posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.22, while the Sea Gull women recorded a 3.39 team GPA to receive the national academic distinction under head coach Jim Jones.
Highlighting the academic honors was Kai Smith, who was named the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Scholar Track Athlete of the Year. A native of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Smith maintained a 3.38 cumulative GPA while majoring in Exercise Science. On the track, he captured NCAA Division III National Championships in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships, cementing his place as one of the nation's premier student-athletes.
In addition to Smith's national recognition, eight Sea Gulls earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete honors. Jon Alicea – Exercise Science, Tristan Dutton – Physical Education, Justin Freeman – Education, Hayden Myers – Business, Isaiah Rivera – Business, Kai Smith – Exercise Science, Anna Bodmer – English, and Marlyse Haack – Exercise Science.
Salisbury University is a proud member of NCAA Division III with primary membership in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference, along with affiliate membership in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (football, men's & women's swimming), Coastal Lacrosse Conference (men's lacrosse), State University of New York Athletic Conference (field hockey), and Colonial Women's Golf Conference (women's golf). With over 500 student-athletes in 23 varsity sports, SU is recognized as one of the nation's most competitive intercollegiate athletics programs regardless of division, featuring dedicated coaches and staff that foster excellence on and off the field.
