SALISBURY, Md. – Two Salisbury University student-athletes brought home their first career Jersey Mike's A Sub Above Players of the Week honors this past week, courtesy of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) and Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C). Layla Kent netted SUNYAC Offensive Athlete of the Week, while volleyball's
Sophia Blaufuss dug up C2C Defensive Player of the Week.
Layla Kent | SUNYAC Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week | First Career
Kent (Fr. – Millington, Md.) netted two goals on 10 shots to help the Sea Gulls earn home wins over Washington College and No. 9 Messiah on the week. Her goal against Messiah came off a penalty corner as time expired in the fourth quarter, tying the game and setting SU up to beat the Falcons 3-2 in double overtime. Kent's eight points (three goals, two assists) are currently tops on the team.
Sophia Blaufuss | C2C Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week | First Career
Blaufuss (Jr. – Frisco, Texas) corralled 47 digs (3.92 D/S) in her first action at libero this season, helping the Sea Gulls go 1-2 against stiff competition at the Tufts Invitational. She set a new career high with 24 digs in Friday's matchup with Bowdoin, then chased down 17 more in Saturday's upset of 21st-ranked Tufts. Blaufuss also posted a .934 reception percentage for the weekend.
