SALISBURY, Md. – Four Salisbury University student-athletes garnered Jersey Mike's A Sub Above Players of the Week honors to open the fall season, with awards coming in from the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) and State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).
Third-ranked field hockey's
Ryan Lowe opened her career with SUNYAC Offensive Athlete of the Week; volleyball's
Kiley McTaggart and
Elizabeth Villegas swept C2C Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively; and cross country's
Anna Bodmer ran down C2C Women's Athlete of the Week behind a school-record performance at home.
Ryan Lowe | SUNYAC Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week | First Career
Lowe (Fr. – Bridgeville, Del.) notched five points over her first two collegiate games, helping SU secure early-season wins over Swarthmore and Stockton. She tallied three assists in the season opener against Swarthmore before netting the game-winning goal in a 1-0 decision at Stockton.
Kiley McTaggart | C2C Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week | Seventh Career (First This Season)
McTaggart (Sr. – North Wales, Pa.) hammered down 51 kills (3.40 K/S) with six service aces, leading the Sea Gulls to a 4-0 opening week. In Saturday's five-set thriller over Muskingum, she posted her second career double-double with 16 kills and 19 digs; hours later against Lebanon Valley, she hammered down 15 kills at a .341 clip.
Elizabeth Villegas | C2C Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week | Second Career (First This Season)
Villegas (Sr. – Charlestown, W.V.) corralled 86 digs (5.73 D/S) as part of the Sea Gulls' perfect week. On Friday against Drew, she hit the 1,000-dig plateau for her career while setting up SU's clinching point for the match. She then topped 20 digs in both Saturday matches against Muskingum and Lebanon Valley, finishing one shy of her career high with 26 in the nightcap.
Anna Bodmer | C2C Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week | Fifth Career (First This Season)
Bodmer (Sr. – Dickerson, Md.) paced the Sea Gulls with a third-place finish at the Salisbury University Fall Classic, which drew a stacked Division I field that included Navy, George Mason, and UMES. Took the individual bronze medal in 21:17.5, breaking her own school record and finishing behind only two Navy runners. Bodmer now owns seven school records between Salisbury's cross country and track & field programs.
