In honor of the late Coach Margie Knight, the Salisbury University softball program is proud to play host to the second annual Margie Knight Classic Softball Tournament. All games this season will be held at Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex.
Margie was the ultimate Sea Gull, leading student-athletes for 25 seasons as the head coach of Salisbury softball – finishing her legendary career with an 846-209-2 record, good for 13th all time for NCAA softball coaches and sixth in Division III. By leading her teams to 18 Capital Athletic Conference championships and 21 NCAA tournament appearances, including nine NCAA World Series appearances, she was named Regional Coach of the Year 10 times and inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2018.
Her mark was not just on the diamond, as she was a pillar in the community for friends, families, student-athletes, her colleagues and anyone that needed a shoulder to lean on.
Whether dressed as Spider-Man or a samurai warrior to inspire her team, helping the son of a friend with his batting technique or protecting every living creature she encountered as an avid animal lover, the former Salisbury University Softball Head Coach touched virtually everyone with whom she crossed paths and did so in a meaningful way.
Following her passing in July 2022, those in Margie’s lives stepped forward – alumni, family, friends, and all those that knew the impact she had on the lives she touched – pushed for her name to be cemented on the Margie Knight Sea Gull Softball Stadium.
While Margie’s accomplishments as a coach will leave her as one of the game’s greatest – we know she more than a coach to this community. Margie was a friend, mentor, warrior, and hero to us all. There is no way to thank a person with this magnitude of an impact on the SU community, but we hope the MJK Classic Softball Tournament honors her for years to come.
