SALISBURY, Md. – D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association released their weekly rankings on Tuesday afternoon, and Salisbury University was recognized by both organizations, coming in a No. 8 in the D3baseball.com poll and No. 10 in the ABCA poll.
The Sea Gulls (34-8-1) saw their three-year run as Capital Athletic Conference champions halted last Saturday after dropping two of three first round contests to Penn State University-Harrisburg. The team, which represented the No. 1 seed in this year's tournament, picked up a 6-2 win over Southern Virginia University in its first game on Friday, but fell to the Lions 5-0 in game two. Salisbury defeated Penn State-Harrisburg early Saturday, 26-9 to force a winner-take all game, but fell to the Lions again, this time by a score of 10-5, to end its CAC title run.
CAC opponent Christopher Newport University (33-6) also continued to be recognized by each organization as one of the top programs in the country. The Captains, who dropped down one spot to No. 3 in both the D3baseball.com and ABCA polls after sitting at No. 2 for the past several weeks, will host Penn State-Harrisburg in the upcoming CAC championship this weekend.
