INDIANAPOLIS – The field of 58 teams has been announced for the 2019 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament, and the No. 8 Salisbury University baseball team will host an opening round regional at Sea Gull Baseball Stadium. The four-team regional will also include Rowan University, Washington & Jefferson College, and Penn State University-Abington.
The Sea Gulls (34-8-1) earned an at-large bid and will be making its 25th tournament appearance in program history. They will represent the No. 2 seed in the region while looking to take the first step toward the Division III World Series for the sixth time.
Rowan (30-11) represents the No. 1 seed in the regional, earning an at-large bid after being eliminated by Ramapo College in the New Jersey Athletic Conference tournament by a score of 6-5 back on May 4. The Profs were the top seed in last year's NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional after winning the NJAC tournament but were eliminated by Virginia Wesleyan University on the final day, 9-6, to end their bid at a World Series Appearance.
Washington & Jefferson (32-11) represents the No. 3 seed in the regional with an automatic bid into the tournament after winning the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament. The Presidents have made the NCAA tournament seven times in the past 10 years, making it to the World Series in 2017. They have hosted a regional round three times in the past four years, while also traveling to Salisbury as a member of the South Regional back in 2009.
Penn State-Abington (23-25) represents the No. 4 seed in the regional after winning the North Eastern Athletic Conference tournament. The Lions are the most recent opponent to visit Salisbury, traveling down to face the Sea Gulls on April 6. Salisbury defeated Penn State-Abington in that contest, 9-1. This marks the program's first appearance in the NCAA tournament.
Rowan and Penn St.-Abington will play Friday, May 17 beginning at 10 a.m. Salisbury will square off against Washington & Jefferson at 1:30 p.m., with each team playing again in the double-elimination tournament on Saturday, May 18.
