Salisbury enters week as No. 10 in both and ABCA polls

SALISBURY, Md. – The organizations and the American Baseball Coaches Association released their weekly polls on Tuesday afternoon and Salisbury University found itself ranked 10th in both polls.

The Sea Gulls collected 362 points in the poll while they totaled 343 points in the ABCA poll. Salisbury enters the week with a record of 34-8-1 as it is set to begin NCAA tournament play beginning on Friday, May 17.  

Capital Athletic Conference opponent Christopher Newport University found itself in the No. 1 spot in the most recent poll as the Captains earned 16 of the total 25 first-place votes and garnered 606 points. Concordia-Chicago University came in at No. 2 with six first-place votes and 581 points while Southern Maine University dropped one spot to No. 3 and totaled 550 points. Trinity (Texas) University held strong at No. 4 behind 546 points while Washington (Mo.) University, which picked up the other three first-place votes and 534 points, rounded out the top five.    

In the ABCA poll Concordia-Chicago remained atop the Division III baseball world as it received 10 first-place votes and totaled 466 points. Christopher Newport moved up one spot to No. 2 as it earned a first-place vote as well as 443 points. Washington University jumped a spot to No. 3 behind three-place votes and 441 points. Southern Maine and Trinity (Texas) rounded out the top five as No. 4 and No. 5 respectively. Southern Maine garnered a first-place vote and 420 points while Trinity picked up 400 points.

Salisbury returns to action on Friday, May 17 when it hosts Washington & Jefferson in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.
