ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Salisbury University junior punter Kyle Hamby has been named the first Empire 8 Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the 2013 season, the league announced on Monday, for his efforts in Salisbury's game against Christopher Newport University on Saturday.
Hamby had seven opportunities to punt during the Sea Gulls' 17-10 defeat on Saturday, averaging 45.7 yards per boot, as a key weapon in the field-position battle.
The Laurel, Md., native landed three of his kicks inside the 20-yard line and had a booming 70-yard effort in the first quarter.
Hamby, the Empire 8 Special Teams Player of the Year in 2012, has been named the conference's Player of the Week four times in his career.
Salisbury will return to action this Saturday when the Sea Gulls travel to Wesley College. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
