MINNEAPOLIS - The Salisbury University football team earned its first national ranking of the 2015 season, after the Sea Gulls defeated No. 13 Rowan University on Saturday, jumping into the D3football.com Top 25 poll at No. 23, the organization announced on Sunday.
Salisbury garnered 63 points in the poll, as one-of-four previously unranked teams to move into the top 25, after taking down the Profs 31-28 on Homecoming.
The Sea Gulls now sit at 3-1 on the season, with a 3-0 record in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Salisbury and Wesley College, both playing in their first seasons in the NJAC, are tied for the top spot in the league.
The top five in the poll is led by new No. 1 University of Mount Union (619 points and 19 first-place votes). No. 2 Linfield College (595 points and six first-place votes, No. 3 University of Mary-Hardin Baylor (571 points), and No. 4 Wesley (539 points) remain in the top five. No. 5 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (480 points) jumped up into the top five from No. 15.
Salisbury will continue its season on Saturday, October 17 with an NJAC matchup with William Paterson University at Sea Gull Stadium; the opening kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
