GREENWOOD, Ind. – Salisbury University juniors Timothy Steindl and Alex Potocko have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Football Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the organization announced on Thursday.
The two have played a key role on special teams during Salisbury's 7-1 start to the 2016 season. Steindl has been handling the punting duties and Potocko focusing on place kicking, with each player getting time on kickoffs.
Steindl is a history and religious studies major, carrying a 3.76 cumulative grade-point average. He has punted the ball 14 times, averaging 39.4 yards per boot, dropping half of his efforts inside the 20-yard line. On kickoffs, Steindl has had 19 kicks, with eight of them going for touchbacks.
Potocko, a physics and mathematics major, carries a 4.00 GPA, and has scored 56 points this season, connecting on 41-of-44 extra points and 5-of-7 field goals, including a career-long 40-yard kick. Potocko has kicked off 40 times, averaging 59.4 yards per kick and getting nine touchbacks.
To be eligible for nomination, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.30 GPA and be a starter or key reserve on his team. Being named to the All-District Team, Steindl and Potocko are now eligible to be selected as an Academic All-American; that team will be announced at the end of the month.
The Sea Gulls host Wesley College on Saturday at Sea Gull Stadium. Kickoff is set for noon.
