Football claims 36-14 win against Kean

Oct 22, 2016

The No. 19 Salisbury University football team picked up a key New Jersey Athletic Conference win on Saturday, October 22, topping visiting Kean University. Salisbury dominated on the ground, going for 457 yards, but the Sea Gulls would finish off the first drive with a passing touchdown, as Ryan Jones lofted this ball to Josh McClain for a 24-yard scoring strike. It was the only yards Salisbury needed through the air on the day, with Kolb leading Salisbury’s rushing attack with 184 yards on the ground. Kolb scored his fourth touchdown of the year on a 2-yard run in the third quarter. Senior super back Connor Canonico got the ball 17 times, and turned that into 129 rushing yards on the day and a third quarter touchdown run. Brady Curley scored Salisbury’s first rushing touchdown of the game, finishing off this 12-yard run to get the Gulls to the 2, and getting the call on the next play to finish what he started for the score. He finished with 92 rushing yards in the contest. Brandon Lewis, who came on for Jones in the fourth quarter, capped the scoring with this 12-yard run in the final period. The Salisbury defense swarmed the ball at every chance when the Cougars had the ball. Dominic Fabrizio led the effort with a team-best eight tackles. Kean managed just 275 yards of total offense in the game, with the 14 points allowed lowering Salisbury’s season average, which ranked at 31st in the nation entering the game. Salisbury hits the road next Saturday, October 29, traveling to Christopher Newport University. That game is set to kickoff at 4 p.m.
