PITMAN, N.J. - Salisbury University freshman punter Michael Gillespie was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Special Teams Player of the Week on Sunday.
Gillespie averaged 43.5 yards per punt on eight attempts in Salisbury's 24-19 win over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday. Gillespie's best punt of the day came at a pivotal time for Salisbury. With the Sea Gulls backed up at its own 9-yard line late in the fourth, Gillespie boomed a career-long 72-yard punt that flipped the field and forced Oshkosh to start their drive at their own 19-yard line.
Gillespie is currently tied for third in the NJAC in punting with an average of 39.7 yards per punt.
Gillespie is Salisbury's second NJAC weekly award winner of the season after Sean Carroll collected NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for Week 1.
