Football cracks Top 10 in, AFCA polls

SALISBURY, Md. – Coming off a dominant 38-7 homecoming victory on Saturday over Rowan, the Salisbury University football team cracked the top-10 in both and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 Polls.

Salisbury sits at No. 10 in both of the major Division III polls with a 5-0 overall record and a 3-0 record in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Salisbury is one of 19 teams that are unbeaten so far this season.

It is the first time that the Sea Gulls are in the top-10 in both national polls since the 2012 season. Salisbury picked up 791 points in the AFCA Coaches' Poll and collected 383 points in the Top 25.

For the seventh consecutive week, Mary-Hardin Baylor and Mount Union remained at the top of the polls in that order. UW-Whitewater, St. John's and Wheaton (Ill.) round the top-five of both polls.

Salisbury and Wesley are the lone NJAC teams in the Top 25 polls with the Wolverines slotted in 13th in the poll and 15th in the AFCA rankings. Wisconsin-Oshkosh sits just outside the Top 25 in both polls among the teams receiving votes.

The Sea Gulls will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 26 when they head to Union, N.J. to take on the Kean Cougars in NJAC action. The game is set for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
