SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University football team moved up a spot in the national rankings in the most recent Top 25 polls released by D3football.com and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).
Salisbury sits sixth in both national polls. The sixth position in the D3football.com poll is the highest position in the history of that poll. The Sea Gulls finished off their first undefeated season since 2004 with a 42-13 win over William Paterson on Nov. 16.
Salisbury collected 487 points in the D3football.com Top 25 and 983 points in the AFCA poll. Mount Union and Mary-Hardin Baylor remained in the top spots of both the D3football.com and AFCA rankings, respectively. Wheaton, Muhlenberg and North Carroll round out the top-five.
Salisbury and Wesley are the lone NJAC teams in the Top 25. Wesley sits 10th and 11th in the D3football and AFCA polls respectively. UW-Oshkosh won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 27-20 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Nov. 16 to sit at 18th and 21st in both polls.
The Sea Gulls were ranked No. 1 in the final East Region rankings for the third consecutive week.
Salisbury will open the NCAA Tournament with hosting the SUNY-Maritime Privateers on Saturday, Nov. 23 at noon.
