OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The No. 5 Salisbury University field hockey team saw the second career hat trick from junior Tara Daddio leading to a 5-1 win at Stevenson University on Wednesday night.
Daddio made her mark early on, scoring twice in the game's first three minutes to stake Salisbury (3-0) to a 2-0 lead. The first came just 60 seconds into the game off an assist from Rebecca Lloyd before finishing off a rebound after a flurry of three Salisbury shots.
The Mustangs (2-1) got on the board with a goal in the fifth minute, but the 2-1 score was as close as the hosts would get, and the score remained that way through the remainder of the first half, including a weather delay.
Emily Lemanski scored the first of a trio of second half goals for the Sea Gulls in the 47th minute after Arielle Johnston's try from the top of the circle was kicked away by Stevenson goalkeeper Kelsey Eure, but the save came to Lemanski at the left post, and she didn't miss her chance at the insurance marker.
Rachel Domanico put home her first goal of the season moments after Lemanski's score and Daddio capped the scoring with an unassisted goal with less than 20 minutes remaining to cap the scoring. Daddio's other three-goal game came last season when she scored three times against Wesley College.
Eure was able to save nine of the shots she faced, with the Sea Gulls getting 16 attempts in the game. Salisbury goalkeeper Dom Farrace made two saves, earning her second win of the year.
The Sea Gulls now turn their sights on a showdown at No. 2 Messiah College this Saturday, September 8 beginning at 1 p.m.
