No. 8 Sea Gulls take down Seahawks, 4-0; remain unbeaten in CAC

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The No. 8 Salisbury University field hockey team earned a 4-0 win against Capital Athletic Conference opponent St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday afternoon.

The teams got off to a slow start offensively, with the Sea Gulls (13-2, 4-0 CAC) netting their first goal of the game, a tally by junior Tara Daddio off an assist from freshman Tara Flavin, with just less than two minutes remaining in the first half despite outshooting St. Mary's (7-7, 1-3 CAC) by an 11-1 margin in the first 35 minutes of play.

After the halftime break, Salisbury buckled down on its offensive efforts, and senior Emily Lemanski made it a 2-0 contest in the 42nd minute off an assist from freshman McKenzie Mitchell. With less than 10 minutes to play, the Sea Gulls added two additional goals – one off the stick of junior Meghan Jolikko, assisted by sophomore Kate Melvin, and a second goal from Daddio, assisted by junior Jillian Hughes – to earn the 4-0 victory.

With her two goals, Daddio has now scored 17 goals this season – the most by a Sea Gull in a single season since Courtney Jantzen's 22 goals in the 2014 campaign.

Salisbury closes out the regular season at home on Wednesday, October 24 at 6 p.m., against CAC opponent and No. 14 Christopher Newport University. With a win against the Captains, the Sea Gulls would lock up the top seed in the CAC tournament, which begins on October 28.
