SALISBURY, Md. – The organization US Lacrosse Magazine released its 2019 Nike/USL Division III Men's Preseason Top 20 Poll on Thursday morning. The Salisbury University men's lacrosse team found itself amongst the top teams in the nation in the poll coming in at second.
The Sea Gulls completed the 2018 season with an overall record of 20-4 while posting a 7-1 mark in Capital Athletic Conference play. After a 6-3 start the maroon and gold embarked on a 14-game win streak in which it claimed its 21st CAC championship and advanced all the way to the national championship game before falling to Wesleyan University, 8-6.
Last year's defending national champion, Wesleyan, enters the year as the top team in the nation. Amherst College came in at No. 3 while Tufts University and Rochester Institute of Technology rounded out the top five as No. 4 and No. 5 respectively.
Fellow CAC opponents York College of Pennsylvania and Christopher Newport University joined Salisbury in the top 20 as the Spartans come in to 2019 ranked seventh while the Captains closed out the top 10.
The Sea Gulls open the 2019 season on Sunday, February 3 when its hosts Berry College. Faceoff between the maroon and gold and Vikings is set for 12 p.m.
