FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference released its weekly men's lacrosse honors on Monday afternoon and it was a clean sweep by the Salisbury University men's lacrosse team as Corey Gwin and Kevin Murphy earned weekly accolades, being named the CAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
Gwin, who earned his second CAC weekly honor of the season, turned in an exceptional offensive performance in the Sea Gulls top-10 battle against No. 6 Gettysburg College on February 23. Gwin totaled a team-high six points in the 17-10 victory over the Bullets, scoring another team-best four goals while also dishing out two assists. His four goals came on just six shots, placing five of those on net to post a shooting percentage of 80 for the contest. It is Gwin's second hat trick of the season and fourth time in his career he has netted four or more goals in a game for the maroon and gold.
Murphy anchored a solid defensive performance by the Sea Gulls as he posted a team-high four caused turnovers and scooped up two groundballs, while also adding in an assist to round out his performance in the victory over Gettysburg.
Salisbury returns to action on Sunday, March 3 when it hosts No. 15 Ohio Wesleyan University. Faceoff between the Sea Gulls and Battling Bishops is scheduled for 12 p.m.
