O'Callaghan and Gwin sweep CAC awards

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference released weekly men's lacrosse awards on Monday afternoon and for the second consecutive week it was a clean sweep for the maroon and gold as Corey Gwin and Matt O'Callaghan each earned weekly honors.

Gwin, who was named Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season, was instrumental in the Sea Gulls 21-6 win over Frostburg State University on April 6. Gwin totaled a team-best eight points in the victory with four goals and four assists. For the contest he tallied 13 shots, five of which were on cage for a shot on goal percentage of .385. It marked the fifth game this season that Gwin has recorded five or more points.

O'Callaghan was named Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career as he helped anchor a strong defensive effort against the Bobcats. He was part of a unit that caused 11 Frostburg State turnovers, while he tallied a team-high four. O'Callaghan also scooped up four of the 55 total groundballs in the contest for the maroon and gold. The six goals against marks the sixth straight game and seventh of the year that Salisbury has held its opponent to six goals or fewer.

Salisbury returns to action on Wednesday, April 17 when it hosts No. 20 Christopher Newport University. Faceoff between the Sea Gulls and Captains is set for 7 p.m.
