FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference released its 2019 Male and Female Senior-Scholar Athlete of the Year awards on Friday morning and Salisbury University men's lacrosse senior midfielder Corey Gwin was recognized by the conference as he was named the 2019 CAC Male Senior-Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Gwin was exceptional both on and off the field during his career in the maroon and gold, fully embracing the term student-athlete. He posted a 3.70 cumulative grade point average as an Environmental Science major, earning a spot on the 2018-19 CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team.
On the field Gwin played in 81 games for the Sea Gulls accumulating 193 points, netting 138 goals, including 31 man-up markers, and dishing out 55 assists. He placed 255 shots on goal throughout his career for a shot on goal percentage of 56.7 percent. Gwin appeared in three national titles with Salisbury, winning two, while helping the program capture three CAC titles en route to a record of 87-8 in his four years.
Gwin becomes the sixth male Salisbury student-athlete to earn to the prestigious conference award and first men's lacrosse player to garner the honor. He is the first Sea Gull to win the award since Andrew Levy, of Salisbury baseball, earned the honor back in 2013.
