HIGHLIGHT VIDEO: No 1 Salisbury vs. Illinois Wesleyan
The top ranked Salisbury University men’s lacrosse team rolled to a convincing 22-6 victory over visiting Illinois Wesleyan University on Friday, March 15 at Sea Gull Stadium. The Sea Gulls saw 11 different players finish the contest with at least one point but none were more impressive than the performances of Josh Melton and Zach Pompea. Melton tied a career-high in points totaling 10 for the contest, marking the second time he has accomplished the feat this season. He netted a team and career-best six goals in the contest while also dishing out four assists. Melton bookended the opening frame netting the first goal of the contest while capping the quarter with a tally to put the home team up 5-2. Pompea was equally as impressive in the game finishing with seven total points firing home two goals while dishing out a team-high five assists, which marks a career-high for him. He finished off an individual effort early in the opening quarter while also tallying one assist. Pompea went on to play a major role in the seven-goal second quarter assisting on four of them including the opening three. Overall, 10 different players found the back of the net for the maroon and gold including three players, who tallied hat tricks. Corey Gwin added five goals and two assists while Tyler Snyder chipped in three goals of his own. Salisbury returns to action on Sunday, March 17 when it hosts Montclair State University beginning at 1 p.m.
