The second ranked Salisbury University men’s lacrosse team took down visiting Ohio Wesleyan University on Sunday, March 3 by the final score of 18-9. The Sea Gulls saw exceptional performances from multiple players but none were more impressive then Brett Malamphy and Corey Gwin, who not only set team-high’s but turned in career-best performances. Malamphy was solid start to finish for the maroon and gold from the faceoff X winning 21-of-25 faceoffs. He was a perfect 17-of-17 in the first half including a 12-of-12 mark in the opening 15 minutes to help the Gulls jump out to a 9-2 advantage. Four of Salisbury's first nine goals were scored within a minute or less of a faceoff win by Malamphy. He would also add in yet another team-best and a career-high 14 groundballs in the victory. Gwin also posted a team and career-high individual performance accomplishing a feat that had not been done since May 2017. He posted a team and career-high nine points netting another career-high seven goals, including all three of Salisbury’s markers in the second quarter to help the maroon and gold take a 12-4 lead into the locker room. Gwin becomes the first player to score seven goals in a contest since Nathan Blondino accomplished the feat on May 13, 2017, when he scored seven against Hampden-Sydney College in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, March 9 when it travels to out of conference rival Stevenson University for a prime time showdown with the Mustangs. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at Mustang Stadium.
