HIGHLIGHT VIDEO: No. 2 Salisbury vs. SUNY Maritime
The second ranked Salisbury University men’s lacrosse program rolled to a convincing 19-4 victory over State University of New York Maritime in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday evening at Sea Gull Stadium. The Sea Gulls got a complete team performance in the win led by Corey Gwin’s team-high four goals and Josh Melton’s team-best eight points. Gwin finished the night with five total points while tallying three of his four markers in the second half including two back-to-back in a span of 40 seconds in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, Melton netted three markers and dished out a team-best five assists for the night. Melton was vital during a seven-goal run for the maroon and gold that stretched between the second and third quarter to help push the lead to 11-1. Melton tallied one goal and recorded four assists during the scoring spree. Overall, 11 different players found the back of the net including long-stick midfielder Jackson Woodward, who finished off this ridiculous behind the back goal in the fourth quarter to push the Sea Gulls’ advantage to 17-4. It was Woodward’s second goal in as many games. The defense was equally as impressive causing 12 SUNY Maritime turnovers led by Drew Borkowicz’s and Kevin Murphy’s three. Salisbury returns to action on Saturday, May 11 when it squares off against University of Lynchburg the third round of the NCAA tournament. It will be a rematch from earlier this season in which the maroon and gold got the better of the Hornets 11-9.
