SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 25 Salisbury University men's soccer team fell on Wednesday as it took on Christopher Newport University, the No. 3 team in the nation. The final score of the game was 3-0.
The Captains (6-0-1) took the lead only eight minutes into the game with a goal from midfielder Brian Lybert, who finished the game with two goals. Christopher Newport scored two more goals in the second half to solidify the win.
Salisbury (4-2-1) took only three shots in the first half, but had its chances in the second half with 10 shots, seven of them being on goal. Sophomore defender Elliott Crompton led the team with two shots, both of which were on target.
The game proved to be a physical one, as four yellow cards and 20 fouls were issued between the two teams.
Sea Gull junior goalkeeper John Vnenchak took the loss, making four saves in the effort.
Salisbury will be in action again on Saturday as Capital Athletic Conference foe Frostburg State University comes to the SU Soccer Complex. The game is set to start at 2 p.m.
