DANBURY, Conn. – For the second time this season, Salisbury University junior goalkeeper Drew Staedeli has been awarded the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.
Staedeli helped the Gulls to a perfect 2-0 week, including two shutouts, against Marymount (Va.) University and Frostburg State University last week. Making eight saves through the two matches, the Ellicott City, Maryland native has now turned away 42 shots for a .894 save percentage, which is ninth best in the country, while only allowing five goals through 15 games for a 0.34 goals-against average, placing him eighth among goalkeepers in the country in the category.
For his career so far, Staedeli has played in 39 contests, maintaining a 0.45 goals-against average, which places him at the top in the category in program history.
Staedeli and the Sea Gulls are back in action on Wednesday, October 22, as Salisbury welcomes Christopher Newport University to the SU Soccer Complex for senior day. First touch is set for 3:30 p.m.
