Oct 16, 2017

The Salisbury University men’s soccer team celebrated its five seniors before battling York College of Pennsylvania to a 1-1 tie at Sea Gull Soccer Stadium on Sunday, October 15. Salisbury tested the York keeper right away as Brooks Zentgraf sent a cross into Dolph Hegewisch just 23 seconds into the match, but the goalie was there to keep Hegewisch’s header out of the net. Trevor Brookhart did his part to keep the match scoreless, diving to save a York shot three minutes later. York would get on the board first as Chris Hobbs found the bottom left corner of the net on a shot from 25 yards out in the 21st minute. The Sea Gulls would keep the pressure on as they did all game. Sophomore Ryan Spadin attempted a bicycle kick in the 70th minute but the York keeper was there to make the save. Spadin would make his next opportunity count, however, as he headed in the ball after a York defender misplayed it in front of net. The goal in the 84th minute would tie the game up at one. Salisbury nearly had the game-winner with 27 seconds left, but Alex Eiben’s header off Matthew Zimmerman’s free kick hit the crossbar, sending the game to overtime. The maroon and gold came close to ending it once in each overtime period following corner kicks, but York was there to make two defensive saves, resulting in a 1-1 tie. The men’s soccer team travels to take on Christopher Newport University on Wednesday, October 18 at 7 p.m.
