FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Capital Athletic Conference released the 2018 men's soccer preseason poll on Thursday morning and Salisbury University was selected to finish fifth with 27 points.
Christopher Newport University narrowly edged out defending champion University of Mary Washington for the top spot. The Captains received one more point than the Eagles with 45, while each team garnered three first-place votes.
St. Mary's College of Maryland collected the final two first-place votes to land in third, picking up 39 points overall. York College of Pennsylvania was slotted in just above the Sea Gulls with 30 points.
Rounding out spots six through eight are Frostburg State University (18 points), Penn State University-Harrisburg (14), and Southern Virginia University (7).
The Sea Gulls open the 2018 campaign on Friday, August 31 with the annual Elmer Lord Memorial Soccer Tournament. Salisbury will take on Hobart College in the opening match at 2 p.m.
