Men’s Soccer Wins First Game at Seahawk Classic

SALISBURY, Md.- The Salisbury Men's Soccer team came together after a 1-0 deficit to beat the Kean University Cougars 2-1 on the first day of the Seahawk Classic hosted by St. Mary's (Md.). 

THE RUNDOWN: 

  • Final Score: Salisbury 2, Kean 1 

  • Records: Salisbury (3-1) | Kean (3-1) 

  • Location: Jamie L. Roberts Stadium- St. Mary's City, Md. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Kean scored their lone goal when Matthew Almeida was assisted by Fanor Arango early in the games 9th minute to put the Cougars on the board first. 

  • Salisbury would answer back when junior Luke Ahalt scored off a pass from senior Quincy Tyler in the 59th minute. 

  • The game-winning goal came from senior Matt Hawkins assisted Dolph Hegewisch to secure the 2-1 win over the Cougars in the 77th minute. 

GAME NOTES:

  • The Sea Gulls outshot the Cougars, 13-1.  

  • Kean had the overall advantage in corner kicks 10-3. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Luke Ahalt would earn his first start of the 2019 season and tallied his first goal of the season.  

  • Dolph Hegewisch is on a point-scoring streak by scoring at least one point in the last three games.
